 Let the sounds of the drum wash over you to break through blocks, release unhelpful patterns, then shift, refocus and realign your energy with your intentions!

Using the djembe and elemental rhythms based on the 5 Elements of the Dagara people of West Africa, 5-Element Sound Attunement is a modern sound healing system developed by Toby Christensen over 25 years ago while working with Dagara Elder Malidoma Somé (now deceased) in the village of Dano, Burkina Faso, in West Africa.

First off we’ll review the origin of the djembe and how it has come to us in the West, as well as review the basic technique needed to get started with it. We’ll go over the nature of each element of the Dagara cosmology, and how each embodies certain characteristics applicable to the human condition. We’ll learn songs related to each element, then learn the rhythms developed to embody the energy of each.


We will finish our time together with a Five Element Sound Attunement session where each attendee will have the opportunity to be drummed over directly.


No drumming experience is necessary. You are welcome to bring a drum if you have one, otherwise we will have some drums for you to use

July 25th @ 5 pm- different elements will be covered in this class
August 15th @ 5 pm- A transportive, healing drumming Journey in this class
