- **Event Description**: Join thousands of folks across the country as we stand together on Veteran’s Day (November 11th) to support those who honored their oath to our Constitution!

We will join at Mid’s Park (at the sidewalk above the bandshell park on Main St) in Lake Placid at 10:30am on Tuesday November 11th for a short but meaningful peaceful gathering.  Please come with your American flags and signs in support of our Veterans and our Constitution. We will spread out along the parade route of Main Street and show our solidarity as many of our local Veterans pass by. (Just a friendly reminder that first and foremost this is a non-violent and peaceful event.)

This is a parade that typically draws in just a handful of supporters so we know that having many of us there will have an impact!  Local reporters will be present to share why we are out on the streets, and photographers will capture the moment.  Continue to be on the right side of history by taking yet another opportunity to stand up and speak out!

Gather your friends and neighbors (encourage the Veterans in your life to join too) and come join us!  There will be large “Vets Say No” events in DC, LA, Chicago, Portland, Boston, NYC, and a variety of other locations that day.  Let’s make Lake Placid one of them!!!

To enhance your participation and make even more of a difference, please consider donating to Homeward Bound of the Adirondacks whose mission is “empowering veterans in Northern NY to reclaim their lives and find hope beyond trauma. [They] provide comprehensive support services, including nature retreats, peer mentoring, crisis outreach, screenings and assessments, case management, suicide prevention, linkage and transportation, and referral services to help veterans suffering with PTSD.”  Their website has a donate button www.homewardboundadirondacks.org and they will also be present to take donations at the event.  

One final step is to bring a donation for our local food pantry.  As you probably know, folks are really struggling this year due to the federal shutdown and cuts to assistance programs, Veterans included.  Therefore it is more important than ever to share with our neighbors when we can.  Show Up will be present to collect donations (cash or check payable to: “Lake Placid Thrive and Thrift”).  While physical food (think pasta, tuna, hearty soups, rice, etc) is very helpful, monetary donations can be used to fill in gaps each week as needed.

Let’s put our money where our mouth is and really support these meaningful causes!  No donation is too small!

In summary, we are calling you to THREE ACTIONS:

1.)	Be present with us on Nov 11th to wave your flags and carry your signs in support for our local Veterans
2.)	Donate to Homeward Bound Adirondacks
3.)	Donate to our local food pantry
