Spanning more than 3,500 acres of forested hills, lakes, and historic pathways, this area offers some of the most peaceful hiking in northern New Jersey.This hike covers approximately 5 miles with about 450 feet of elevation gain and loss, which we’ll take at a leisurely, relaxed pace.Our adventure begins along the historic Ogden Mine Railroad Trail, once used to transport iron ore from the region’s mines. This gentle, wooded path leads us toward the highest point in Morris County, standing at 1,395 feet above sea level. From this quiet high ridge, we’ll continue on to Headley Overlook, where a rewarding view opens across the rolling forested hills of Jefferson Township.The route features a pleasant mix of wooded trails, gentle climbs, and rolling terrain before gradually descending toward Saffin Pond.
