On August 9, 1757, after six days of relentless bombardment, the British garrison under Colonel George Monro agreed to the Articles of Capitulation, bringing the Siege of Fort William Henry to its conclusion.

Join Fort William Henry Museum as we commemorate the 269th Anniversary of the Surrender of Fort William Henry with one of our most meaningful annual traditions.

Witness a living history presentation as Colonel George Monro and Marquis de Montcalm once again meet to read the Articles of Capitulation on the anniversary of their signing. Following the ceremony, participants are invited to join us for a wreath-laying ceremony honoring all who served, suffered, and lost their lives during the 1757 campaign.

The surrender marked the end of the siege, but not the end of the story. Through historical interpretation grounded in journals, letters, military reports, and eyewitness accounts, we will reflect upon the courage of the defenders, the professionalism shown by soldiers on both sides, and the events that forever shaped the history of Fort William Henry.
