Join South Dakota State Parks for a Run for the Trees – Happy Little 5K park meet-up at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park! 

This Bob Ross–inspired virtual 5K encourages participants to get outside, enjoy nature, and support tree planting and forest protection in South Dakota state parks.

Participants are invited to gather at Fort Sisseton to complete their 5K together in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Walk, run, jog, stroll, or roll—this event is open to all ages and abilities. The route will follow park trails, allowing participants to experience and celebrate our outdoor spaces.

Important registration information:
Registration for the official Run for the Trees event—and to receive the Bob Ross swag packet (T-shirt, finisher medal, and race bib)—must be completed online by April 1, 2026, at https://runsignup.com/happylittletrees. 

This is a virtual 5K, so participants may also complete their 5K on their own anytime during the event window, but this meet-up offers a chance to enjoy the experience together at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park.

Race proceeds support tree planting and forest protection in South Dakota state parks.

- along the route will be fun stations to get your “Boss Ross” on! 
- People are welcome to dress up and to win prizes for best costumes that go along with the theme. 
- we can use volunteers to man the stations and people on the route to help cheer people on
