- **Event Description**: Laying Hen Spinners gives 4-H youth the opportunity to raise chickens to show in the Columbia County Fair!About this EventLaying Hen Spinners gives Columbia County youth the opportunity to raise chickens to show at the Columbia County Fair while building responsibility, animal care knowledge, and poultry management skills. At the kickoff meeting, participants will vote on the breed they would like to raise, giving them a voice in their project from the very beginning. Youth will then receive six hen chicks in May, allowing them to gain hands-on experience caring for their birds from chick to show time. Throughout the project, members will learn about proper nutrition, housing, health management, record keeping, and showmanship as they prepare their hens for the fair. Youth must be age 5 by September 1, 2026 to participate.
