Inspired by the marks artists leave through their work, teaching, and relationships, Imprints brings together two distinct but interconnected creative lineages. The exhibition reflects the process-driven nature of Pavy’s printmaking practice while highlighting more than 45 years of education, cultural preservation, and community-building fostered by Hamilton-Mayfield through Hamilton Academy of the Arts.

The Basin Arts LINEAGE Award honors visual and performing artists who have contributed a lifetime of creativity to Acadiana and beyond, embody the community-centered values of Basin Arts, and have laid a foundation for future generations of artists. As part of the award, each honoree leads a project designed to engage local artists and pass their knowledge, traditions, and creative practices forward.

For her LINEAGE project, Hamilton-Mayfield curated The Creole Zydeco Experience, a day-long celebration of Louisiana Creole and Zydeco culture. Through interactive activities centered on food, dance, language, music, and community, participants explored the traditions that continue to shape our region’s cultural landscape. The exhibition features the collaborative quilt created during the event, along with documentary footage capturing the day’s shared experiences.

For his LINEAGE project, Pavy led a three-month workshop series immersing local artists in relief printmaking. Participants expanded their skills from foundational single-color block printing to multicolor reduction techniques and introductory multi-block printing. The extended format offered artists time and space to experiment, develop their ideas, and deepen their individual practices. Works created by participating artists are presented alongside Pavy’s work in the exhibition.

Together, these projects reveal lineage as something living—carried forward through artistic process, shared knowledge, cultural memory, and creative community.

And – exclusively for September ArtWalk – our Artist Classroom has been transformed into a special pop-up gallery celebrating Basin Arts’ BARE Walls program. Step inside to discover a curated selection of work by BARE Walls artists Margo Baker, Ted Bertrand, Jake Crawford, Deana Estefeeva, Sarah Flores, Kate Gorden, Eliza Hinrichs, Kelly Nelson, Herb Roe, and Megan Tran—and experience the breadth of creativity represented within this growing community of local artists!
