2026 Chrism Mass

On Holy Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM, Bishop Douglas Deshotel will celebrate the annual Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. Each year, this beautiful and solemn liturgy brings together the bishop and priests from across the Diocese of Lafayette in a powerful sign of unity within the Church. During the Mass, the Sacred Oils—the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Sacred Chrism—are blessed and consecrated for use in parishes throughout the coming year in the celebration of the sacraments. This Mass is also a moving moment as the priests of the diocese publicly renew their commitment to priestly service, reaffirming the promises made at their ordination.


All are invited to this special celebration, which reflects the unity, mission, and sacramental life of our diocesan Church as we enter the Sacred Triduum together.
