Aldo Leopold (1886-1948) is the foremost conservationist in America who wrote the classic Sand County Almanac, in which he eloquently described the need for a land ethic encompassing conservation of land and wildlife resources. Along with John Muir, he had foundational impacts on the missions of most of our public and private conservation and wilderness organizations.
