La Pine Knitting and Crochet Group
Our Origins
The La Pine Knitting and Crochet Group was established in 2015, holding its first meetings at the historic Homestead Quilts Store. Over time, the group has grown into a welcoming community hub for individuals passionate about knitting, crocheting, and crafting.
Who Can Join
Membership in the group is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. Whether you are an experienced crafter or just beginning your journey, you are invited to participate. Meetings take place every Tuesday and last for a couple of hours. The group prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, with an emphasis on creativity and camaraderie among members.
Group Guidelines
To maintain a comfortable and friendly setting for all, the group observes two simple rules: discussions about politics and religion are not permitted during meetings.
What We Do Together
During each gathering, members present their current projects, exchange ideas, and learn new crafting techniques. Group members frequently help one another overcome challenges, and the atmosphere is filled with laughter and encouragement. Under the leadership of Jean Stuart, the group leader, members receive guidance and motivation to persevere and continually improve their skills.
Jean also organizes enjoyable field trips for the group, such as visits to exciting destinations like Christmas Valley’s renowned yarn shop and outdoor lunches at Cultus Lake. Additional activities include fabric painting, felting, and various outside classes, all designed to expand the group’s collective knowledge and experience.
Community Projects
Throughout the year, the group engages in several projects aimed at supporting the local community. Handmade items are crafted and donated to a variety of organizations in La Pine, Crescent, and Bend. These efforts have contributed to helping babies, children, young adults, and adults stay warm during the winter months.
Organizations We Support
In previous years, the group has provided handcrafted goods to local schools, hospitals, neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), women’s shelters, and warming centers. Through these partnerships, members are able to give back to the community and make a meaningful difference with their creative talents.
