Come join COPARC for everyone's favorite survey of the year in Southeastern Colorado from July 17th-19th, 2026. This survey is based out of La Junta, Colorado, so if you want to see a diverse array of herps this is your trip!

ABOUT THE FIELD TRIP
Building on years of past work, we are continuing to create a dataset of the reptiles and amphibian distribution and occurrence records in southeastern Colorado. Naturalists of all ages and experiences are welcome! With 52 documented herp species in the area, this is the best biodiversity in Colorado! Every year we record between 250 and 550 herp observations, with the last 4 surveys having had between 30 and 45 species found!

We will have a mandatory meeting at 6:00 pm on July 17th to distribute permits, provide tips for road cruising, and check for mandatory waiver completion! 

This trip will consist of road cruising on the night of July 17th, followed by group hikes in the morning, a group dinner meet-up, and road cruising on July 18th. There will potentially be a morning hike on July 19th as well.

There will be opportunities to get out with professional biologists and seasoned herping enthusiasts as personal guides who will be happy to assist with finding some of your desired target species.

Naturalists of all ages and experience levels are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
