His dissertation, Be(Long)ing: New Africanism & South African Cultural Producers Confronting State Repression in an Era of Exile, illuminated the cultural and political work of Black South African artists in diaspora. At the time of his passing, Dr. Boston was Director of Pan African Studies and Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies at Sacramento State, as well as Editor-in-Chief of African and Black Diaspora: An International Journal.
