For every item you want to buy, the vendor gives you a ticket.  You take that ticket around with you instead of a heavy book!  When you are ready to check out, you proceed to the payment area where you then pay for everything in one transaction.  Then you take your stamped ticket back to collect your goods.  It's an outstanding event!
