Saint Joseph the Workman Cathedral – La Crosse

All are invited to gather at Saint Joseph the Workman Cathedral on Saturday evening at 8:30 PM for the Easter Vigil, the most solemn and beautiful liturgy of the entire Church year. The Most Reverend Gerard W. Battersby, Bishop of La Crosse, will celebrate this sacred liturgy as we proclaim together the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Easter Vigil begins in darkness outside the Cathedral with the blessing of the new fire and the lighting of the Paschal Candle, symbolizing Christ’s triumph over sin and death. From there, the faithful process into the church by candlelight, hearing the ancient proclamation of the Exultet and a series of readings that recount God’s saving work throughout salvation history.

During this liturgy, the Church also welcomes new members through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist, making this a powerful and joyful celebration of new life in Christ and the renewal of our own baptismal promises.

This sacred celebration takes place at Saint Joseph the Workman Cathedral, 530 Main Street in La Crosse. All are welcome to attend and to take part in this profound and joyful night as we await and celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord.
