Discover the world of flying foxes
Flying-foxes are the largest bats in the world. Habitat loss is one of the biggest threats to flying-foxes. Kyogle Council has been working to improve and extend the habitat for the Kyogle flying-fox camp with an ongoing habitat restoration project. The event will showcase the habitat restoration work taking place along Fawcetts Creek with a guided walk involving a local Bush Regenerator, Council and Landcare. You will be able to view first hand the on-ground works that have taken place over the last few years.
This event is also an opportunity to learn more about our local flying-foxes. Join us for a guided walk with a Wildlife Ecologist, Dr Peggy Eby, that will visit the Kyogle flying-fox camp. You will be introduced to the three flying-fox species that visit this camp. You will learn more about the important role flying-foxes play as pollinators and seed dispersers, keeping our environment healthy. You will be able to view their behaviours and learn more about how far they travel at night to find food. Bring some binoculars to view the flying-foxes up close.
There will be information stalls and resources available on flying-foxes and habitat restoration by Council, Landcare and WIRES Northern Rivers. Landcare will have some plants to give away. You will have the opportunity to meet a Wildlife Carer.
There will be fun kids' activities and a FREE BBQ lunch.
Come and join us at the Kyogle Recreation Reserve (northern end of cricket field) for this free family friendly event.
