BLAKE.08 (Anjunadeep, AU)

Blake Gilray known professionally as Blake.08 has built a reputation for crafting emotive electronic music without compromising his artistic integrity.

Blake.08 hails from Maroubra, a beachside suburb of Sydney, Australia . He began producing music in his early teens, initially inspired by the city’s vibrant rave culture and the sounds his older brother brought back from local hard-trance events. By the time he was 14, he was already experimenting with beats – drawing influence from the UKF dubstep wave, deadmau5’s Mau5trap releases and Above & Beyond’s iconic Anjuna mixes . This diverse musical upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for originality. Even as he honed his craft over nearly 15 years, Blake refused to follow fleeting trends or chase clout. He often emphasizes that “the art always comes first” – a mantra that has guided his career and helped shape his distinctive sound. Blake.08 comes from his passion for breaks and electro sounds, and for his love of Roland's TR-808 drum machine.

In his late teens, Blake Gilray first caught the industry’s attention as one half of the techno duo Human Movement. The project’s high-energy tracks quickly found success, even catching the eye of superstar DJ Skrillex at the start of their journey . Human Movement’s releases racked up tens of thousands of plays and earned key cosigns – including a premiere on Apple’s Beats1 Radio by tastemaker Anna Lunoe . This early exposure on international platforms proved Blake’s talent on a grand scale. However, rather than ride on that momentum alone he chose to reinvent himself and dig deeper into his own artistry. In 2021 Blake launched his solo alias Blake.08, channeling all those years of experience into a fresh vision. Almost immediately the project generated an instant buzz: his refined take on club music and clear artistic direction “caught the ears of tastemakers around the world in a matter of weeks” . By staying true to his musical instincts, Blake.08 has amassed a passionate global cult following – an audience drawn to the authenticity and emotional depth in his productions

Blake.08’s music has been championed by some of the biggest names in electronic music, underscoring the impact of his unique sound. His breakout tracks quickly garnered support from underground legends and mainstream innovators alike. In fact, Anjunadeep’s A&R head James Grant hailed Blake.08 as his “favourite artist on the Anjunadeep roster”, a remarkable endorsement from one of the label’s founders. Fellow Anjunadeep icon Jody Wisternoff not only supported Blake’s music but also collaborated with him – their 2024 joint track “BLAM” was featured as the fan-voted “Push The Button” record of the week on Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy Radio show , signaling how strongly Blake’s work resonated with the global trance & progressive community. Above & Beyond have showcased multiple Blake.08 productions on air (such as the melodic anthem “Star Sender”) firmly cementing him as one of the label’s fastest-rising talents.

Beyond the Anjunadeep family, Blake.08’s genre-blending style has attracted admiration from across the electronic spectrum. House music titans like Solomun, Lane 8, Eelke Kleijn and Ben Pearce have all been spinning his tracks in their DJ sets , a testament to the crossover appeal of his club-ready sound. Even ambient/chillwave pioneer Tycho has taken notice – notably opening a DJ set at San Francisco’s Portola Festival with Blake.08’s deep groover “High Fidelity” . Progressive peers including Nox Vahn have similarly championed his work, often including Blake’s tunes in their mixes and live shows. This broad support from industry leaders speaks volumes: from underground clubs to festival stages, Blake.08’s music has proven its ability to connect.

This year (2025) has marked Blake.08’s most ambitious and successful year to date. He embarked on his first major international tour, bringing his immersive live sets to new corners of the globe. The tour kicked off in his home region of Australasia and then expanded worldwide – with memorable shows across Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, the UK and beyond . From packed open-air gigs in Sydney and Auckland to club nights in London and festival appearances in Dubai, Blake.08 has been forging a genuine connection with audiences on a global scale. The journey continues through mid-2025 with additional stops including a highly anticipated set in Albania . Each performance has reinforced the cult-like devotion of his fanbase, as attendees resonate with the atmosphere and emotion that Blake curates on stage. He has noted on social media that it’s “indescribable” to see such support far from home, reflecting how his music transcends borders and speaks to listeners everywhere.

On the horizon is an even bigger milestone: Blake.08’s debut full-length album “From Sydney, With Love” slated for release in August 2025. This will be his first physical album and a defining moment in his evolution as an artist. The album showcases the next level of his production prowess and musical storytelling. Blake has been crafting this record over the past 18 months, pouring his experiences from the road and the studio into a cohesive narrative which features his signature blend of deep, melodic house and introspective electronica, all while pushing his sound into new territory. Press and radio are already buzzing about the lead single (the infectious “The Change Of Love”, released in May 2025 ) which has garnered upbeat reviews and heavy rotation on specialist radio shows. As August approaches, both loyal fans and newcomers are eagerly awaiting what Blake.08 has termed his most personal and ambitious work yet.
