This hands-on basic abdominal ultrasound course is designed for English-speaking medical students who want to build solid foundations in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and abdominal imaging.
The course emphasizes practical training, with participants working in small groups of three students per one ultrasound machine, ensuring maximum hands-on time and close supervision.
The maximum number of participants is 12, which guarantees a high instructor-to-student ratio and an interactive learning environment.
The training concentrates on clinically relevant applications of abdominal ultrasound, including:
- eFAST protocol (Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma)
- Liver assessment
- Gallbladder and biliary system
- Kidneys
- Pancreas
- Abdominal aorta
- Urinary bladder
- Inferior vena cava (IVC)
Students will learn probe handling, image acquisition, basic interpretation, and common pathological findings, with a strong emphasis on bedside and emergency applications.
The course is led by an experienced clinician Piotr Grabski:
- Physician in specialty training in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care
- Chair of the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Section of the Polish Ultrasound Society
- Member of the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of the Polish Center for International Aid (PCPM)
This course provides a practical, structured, and clinically oriented introduction to abdominal ultrasound, tailored specifically to the needs of medical students preparing for clinical practice.
