Join us for a full day of nature, learning, and community as we celebrate World Environment Day at the beautiful Starke County Forest! This annual event honors our county’s natural resources and brings together neighbors who share a love for the outdoors.
Whether you stay all day or just stop by for a few hours, there’s something for everyone!
🌲 Birding Hikes
Explore five ecological areas during a 1.5-hour guided hike led by local birding expert Mark Krom and Starke County Forester Bruce Wakeland. Learn about forest management and discover the bird species that call the forest home.
Hike Times:
• 9:30–11:00 AM CT / 10:30–12:00 PM ET
• 1:00–2:30 PM CT / 2:00–3:30 PM ET
🍽 Free Lunch & Nature Talk
Enjoy a free lunch at 11:00 AM CT / 12:00 PM ET, followed by a discussion with Bruce Wakeland about A Sand County Almanac and its connection to the Starke County Forest.
Books will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Starke County Forest Fund.
🎨 Kids Activities
• Maker’s Space Craft hosted by Starke County Community Foundation (8:30 AM–2:00 PM CT / 9:30 AM–3:00 PM ET)
• Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt hosted by Starke County Parks (prizes for all ages!)
