We will be making go-karts, cooking on the fire, discussing effective risk management, fundraising, and playwork practice, and announcing the recipients of the 2026 OPAL North awards. Please only book if you can stay for the whole event, as the workshops and training sessions are based on specific numbers of attendees. At that time, many miners moved to the area, and their children would venture down to the quarry to play. The playground was established to provide local children with a safe space to explore and play.Since it first opened over 40 years ago, The Addy has developed into much more than just a safe place to play.Thanks to many dedicated staff and volunteers, The Old Quarry Adventure Playground provides daily play sessions for children of all ages, as well as services for the elderly, children with additional needs, local youth, and tots. It is a space for adventure and freedom.Additional informationPlease only book if you can stay for the whole afternoon, until closing.There will be refreshments, but please bring a packed lunch and arrive in time to park and sign in.
