Sunday, September 21 at 3:00 pm, the parish of St. John the Evangelist (23 Water St. N., Kitchener) will host an organ concert featuring KOLA OWOLABI, in celebration of the 77th birthday of Canadian organist, Bruce Wheatcroft. Entrance by donation with a birthday cake reception to follow!
Kola, an internationally acclaimed organist and composer, was raised in Toronto and is currently Professor of Organ at the University of Notre Dame. As a student, he served as Bruce Wheatcroft's assistant at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal. Kola is now in demand as a solo organist and harpsichordist, and has appeared in concert with the Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble Seraphic Fire and Firebird Chamber Orchestra, based in Miami, FL. He has also produced several recordings, the most recent of which features Georg Muffat's Apparatus musico-organisticus.
The concert will honour the life and music of Bruce and his late husband, William Hutton, both members of St. John's parish.
