The Cats & Dawgs Kirkland Classic is back for year two, and MBCA Seattle has it on the books as an official recruiting event!!

It is a great excuse to bring the car out, meet up with other members, and spend an afternoon in the heart of downtown Kirkland.
Here is the short version of what the day is about. The Classic is the official opening celebration for the 26th Junior League Softball World Series, the youth softball world championship that Kirkland has hosted since 1999. The city has earned the nickname “Softball Town USA,” and for one Saturday the whole downtown turns into a block party built around it.

Things kick off at 2:00 p.m. at Lee Johnson Field at Peter Kirk Park with the Parade of Champions, welcoming all ten competing teams: six U.S. regional champions and four international squads from Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe, and Latin America.

At 3:00 p.m. the main event begins, a slow-pitch celebrity grudge match between “Tru’s Cougs” and “Holla’s Huskies.” Yes, it is exactly the Cougs versus Huskies rivalry you are picturing, played for bragging rights and a good cause.

The two captains are worth the trip on their own: Marcus Trufant, the former Seattle Seahawk cornerback and Washington State Cougar, leads the Cougs. Terry “T-Holla” Hollimon, co-host of The Barbershop Show, captains the Huskies.

Organizers have leaned into a Savannah Bananas style of fun, so expect between-inning games, dance breaks, photo ops, and plenty of good-natured chaos across the two-and-a-half-hour event. It wraps with a post-game ceremony that puts local sports figures shoulder to shoulder with young athletes from around the world.

A few details for the planners among us. The event is free, family-friendly, and open to everyone. Every Junior League Softball World Series game that week airs live on ESPN+.

Pool play runs August 2 through 7 at Everest Park, with the championship on August 8.
So come out, pick a side, and let’s fly the three-pointed star while we are at it. If you have ever wanted an easy, low-key way to introduce a friend to the club, this is the one. Bring them along, enjoy the game, and we will handle the rest!

Please note: the parking should be free in Kirkland Urban’s parking garage just east of the Park.
