# Event Details - **Event Name**: πŸŽƒ Appleby Castle Halloween Ghost Hunt & Optional Sleepover πŸŽƒ - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 31 Oct, 2026 at 08:00 pm – Sun, 01 Nov, 2026 at 03:00 am (+00:00) - **Event Description**: We are delighted to be spending our Halloween 2026 investigating claims of paranormal activity and ghost stories at the incredible Appleby Castle! Built in the 1170s, as a Keep, Appleby Castle was one of the earliest places to use the term β€˜Donjon’, a French word that later evolved into β€˜dungeon’. The castle has had a colourful history, having been sacked by the Scots on more than one occasion. An English army surrendered without a fight here in 1174. And then again in 1388, this time leaving the whole town of Appleby completely destroyed and the castle in ruins, before being reclaimed by King John four years later. Some historic documents record as many as 1,800 English deaths and many taken prisoner. The castle has also been used as a gaol - the Keep was where prisoners would be chained to the floor while awaiting trial or until debts were settled. Prisoners were also kept here awaiting public humiliation and executions. A number of prisoners were hanged drawn and quartered within the castle courtyard, as well as gallows erected here that remained in use until the 19th century, when public executions were moved to a hill nearby instead. The castle has changed over the centuries, with new additions added to it, most notably by the Clifford family. An apparition of a lady seen regularly around the castle is said to be that of Lady Anne Clifford, who made the castle her home and is said to keep an eye on how her castle is doing. The old Norman areas of the castle are said to be where strange shadows have been seen in the darkness. These are believed to be those imprisoned here where many of them died. Deposits & Payments A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your place on the investigation. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 7 days before the event date. Your booking is not confirmed until the deposit has been received. This deposit covers venue coordination, safety arrangements, and preparation of investigation equipment. --- 2. Participant Cancellations More than 14 days before the event: You may cancel your booking. The deposit is non-refundable, but any remaining amount paid will be refunded in full, or you may transfer your booking to another scheduled investigation. 7–14 days before the event: You may cancel your booking and receive a 50% refund of the total event cost (deposit retained), or transfer your booking to another available event date. Less than 7 days before the event: No refunds will be issued. You may, however, transfer your booking to another participant by notifying us in writing. --- 3. No-Show Policy Participants who fail to attend without prior notice will forfeit all payments, including both the deposit and any balance paid. --- 4. Organiser Cancellations If the investigation must be canceled or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances β€” such as unsafe weather, illness, venue restrictions, or low attendance β€” participants will receive: A full refund, including the deposit, or A credit toward a future investigation or event of equal value. We are not responsible for personal travel, lodging, or incidental expenses. --- 5. Conduct Policy To preserve the integrity and safety of our investigations: No alcohol or drugs are permitted at any time before or during the event. Anyone found to be under the influence will be immediately dismissed without refund. Participants must follow all safety instructions and respect the investigation site, equipment, and other attendees. Disruptive, disrespectful, or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated. --- 6.
