Sign up early! Lunch is included!The Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME) is hosting an interactive Masterclass in CIHR Grant Writing, led by its Director, Dr. Stephen Archer. He will be joined by four guest participants who have all successfully secured CIHR funding in various themes.This workshop is designed for researchers applying to CIHR for the first time, as well as experienced researchers preparing a new CIHR application. This year's workshop is open to a limited number of trainees with a research focus (postdoctoral fellow, medicial residents and senior PhD students).  PI's must nominate  trainees prior to registeration by contacting time@queensu.ca.  While it is focused specifically on CIHR, the content of this workshop will apply to other funding sources, including PSI and various research foundations.Participants will gain valuable insights into the CIHR grant application process through three sessions:1. Preparing a Winning GrantUnderstanding the core philosophy underlying a strong grant application.Navigating the timeline from idea to submission.Leveraging the internal review processes to obtain a competitive edge.Gaining practical insights into structuring a compelling application.Crafting a strategic and professional rebuttal to an unsuccessful grant application.2. Advice on grant applications and lessons learnedGuest panelists will share their experiences and strategies for different types of CIHR grant applications, including:Early-career research perspectivesCommercializationTranslational researchClinical research and Clinical trialsGlobal HealthEach panelist will discuss key lessons learned from the application process and provide firsthand insights into best practices.3. Interactive 1-Page Summary Exercise- A chance to test drive your idea!Before the Masterclass, participants will be invited to draft a 1-page CIHR project summary using the TIME grant portal (GoodGrants).During the session, selected project summaries (with consent of the PI) will be critiqued by the group, providing valuable feedback and refinement opportunities.This hands-on workshop is designed to equip researchers with the knowledge and tools needed to craft a successful CIHR grant application.
