About this Event

Vicki from Kahwa:tsire Indigenous-Led Child & Family Programs along with Jennie from Ontario Native Women's Association invite you to join us for Tea with Kokum!

We have invited Kokums (Grandmothers) to join us to play, share language, stories, and songs. This is a drop-in program, come for as little or as long as you're able.

Chat with a Kokum and learn about traditional teas. Let the children learn through play!

This group will take place at 263 Weller Avenue, Kingston (KCHC building). You will find us in the Kahwa:tsire Playroom - just past EarlyON playroom.

Program geared for families with children 0-6 yrs.

Our program, Kahwá:tsire, joins EarlyON playgroups to provide Indigenous langues and cultural teachings with stories, songs, crafts, games, special guests, and more!We provide families with a friendly, safe environment that nurtures and strengthens awarenss as well as promotes and celebrates Idnigenous language and cultures. We visit groups in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington, Hastings & Prince Edward counties. The Kenyen'kéha (Mohawk) word that we have chosen to represent ourselves, Kahwá:tsire, means family. Traditionally Indigenous children would be collectively rasied by the extended family, and it is this aspect where we draw our inspiration and approach to learning. Think of the spaces which our programming and workers occupy as a house with aunties and cousins to play with and learn from. First lesson are always in the home, and we feel that this should be emulated.Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Kahwatsire.EarlyONand YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcSvdgZMKGXXeNC28G68vRA
