About this Event

On Thursday, December 11, we welcome Brandon Holland and Bundith Phunsombatlert (current Woodstock AIRs) to “Meet the Artist” night at CPW. Brandon will present selections from All of Me Remembers, a long-term project that follows his return to the landscapes and lineages that shaped him. The work moves through themes of homecoming, collective memory, and the quiet ways the land holds our histories. Blending portraits and environmental imagery, Brandon considers how Black life remakes meaning in the wake of rupture. He will also share recent commissioned assignments that speak to his ongoing focus on community, storytelling, and the Southern landscape.

Drawing upon his personal experience of immigration and its history, Bundith’s presentation will explore media archaeology through several artworks that trace the unseen paths of immigrants and their stories across real and imagined landscapes. By merging contemporary photographic technologies with traditional media, the works offer a unique definition of “new” media art—defined not simply by technology, but by revealing a fresh “new” meaning in something old. These projects examine how journeys and their interpretations can be works of art, exploring how individuals connect with their backgrounds and cultural identities while rethinking traditional interpretations of history.

Join us every Thursday evening at CPW, when we host illuminating talks with local and visiting artists. “Meet the Artist” allows the public to get to know new work, to hear about artistic processes, and to meet friends and other local artists. The evening takes place at CPW’s gallery at 25 Dederick Street in Kingston, NY. It is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and snacks are served.

“Meet the Artist” is made possible by a generous grant from the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation.

Brandon Holland is a New Orleans-born artist whose work focuses on Blackness, environment, and kinship. Through his lens, he examines the complex relationships between people, memory, and the land. His photography serves as a tool for preservation and storytelling, capturing moments of resilience, joy, and connection.

Brandon’s work challenges historical narratives tied to the American landscape, offering a vision of healing and belonging. With a focus on both portraiture and environmental imagery, he highlights the beauty and interconnectedness of life and culture. His projects often explore Southern Black history, drawing from archival research and lived experience to reframe the past in conversation with the present.

His work has been commissioned by The New York Times, Mellon Foundation, the Atlantic, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, among others. Through these collaborations, he continues to document underrepresented histories and communities, ensuring their stories are seen and remembered.

Bundith Phunsombatlert is a New York-based media artist originally from Thailand. As a first-generation immigrant, his recent work draws on personal and shared immigrant experiences, exploring identity not only through connections between origins and destinations, but also through the relational spaces that connect individuals.

He has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Auckland Triennial (New Zealand), Guangzhou Triennial (China), Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma (Finland), the National Gallery (Thailand), and the Asia Pacific Triennial (Australia). His recent exhibitions have been at the Brooklyn Public Library (Central), the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and the Katonah Museum of Art, all in New York.

Phunsombatlert has received grants and residencies from organizations such as the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, MacDowell Colony, Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Arts Fund, Center for Photography at Woodstock, Center for Book Arts (New York), Harpo Foundation, Eyebeam, Skowhegan, Asian Cultural Council, the Second Prize, UNESCO Digital Arts Award at the 12th International Symposium on Electronic Arts, and the Grand Prize at the Contemporary Art Exhibition in Thailand.

His projects have been featured in various publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Prospect Art’s One Work Publishing Program, Two Times of Art in Print’s Prix de Print, Public Art Review, Artnet News, Hyperallergic, Art Asiapacific, and Asian Art News. Phunsombatlert holds an MFA in Digital+Media from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a BFA/MFA in Printmaking from Silpakorn University in Thailand.
