The Hood Canal Brewery proudly presents: The James Lee Murray Band
Food Truck this week is: Taste of the South
James Lee Murray is a singer, songwriter, and keyboardist from Poulsbo, WA whose music blends the traditions of soul, blues, gospel, jazz, and R&B into something both timeless and contemporary. His debut album Resonate is a testament to that vision—filled with Rhodes grooves, gospel harmony, and lyrics that balance poetry with raw emotion.
Reviewers often compare Murray to Bobby Caldwell at his smoothest, James Taylor at his bluesiest, and Steve Winwood in his prime. His voice—soulful, intimate, and deeply authentic—has been called "the most powerful element of his music." The album itself captures a warm, vintage mid-70s R&B sound with modern honesty and restraint, blending groove and heart in equal measure.
In 2025, Murray and his full band performed at the Greaseland Soiree and the Tacoma Blues & Jazz Festival, delivering soulful, uplifting sets that connected with every room. They've also graced stages at beloved regional venues including Blue Mouse Theatre and The Spar in Tacoma, and Kimballs Coffee House in Gig Harbor.
The band—featuring Brady Kish on bass, Tanya Hodel on backing vocals and percussion, David Hudson on drums, and Stefan Papasoff on guitar—brings depth, energy, and heart to every performance, whether covering classic soul favorites or showcasing Murray's original material.
