- **Event Start and End Date**: Tue, 25 Aug, 2026 at 12:00 pm – Tue, 25 Aug, 2026 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Plan for your businesses futureAbout this EventAbout the WorkshopEvery owner leaves their business eventually — by selling it, by handing it on, or by accident. Very few plan for it, and it shows: around three in four owners say they regret how they did it.This hands-on workshop is about making sure you are in the other group, whichever route you take.We work through both halves of the question. Succession: who runs your business next, who owns it next, how you develop and test a successor, what happens if you are not there next Monday, and how to hand over without hovering. Exit: what your business is actually worth and to whom, how buyers value it, what the sale process involves, who you need advising you, what it costs and how long it really takes.Along the way we look at the factors that make a business transferable to anyone, a buyer, a management team or the next generation, and you score your own business against them. This is not a lecture. You will be mapping your options, scoring your business, working through a real valuation, auditing your readiness against a buyer’s due diligence checklist, and identifying the things that exist only in your own head. You leave with a completed workbook and three specific actions for the next 90 days. You will leave able to:Tell the difference between a succession plan and an exit plan — and work out which you need firstCompare the realistic routes, from family succession and management buy-outs to a trade saleScore your business against the drivers of company valuePut a realistic range on what your business is worth, and to which kind of buyerIdentify what only you can do, and start transferring itUnderstand the process, the advisers, the costs and the timescales on both routesAnticipate the problems that derail sales and handovers — before they derail yoursThink clearly about your own role, and life, on the other sideWho it is forOwners and directors of small and medium-sized businesses. Whether you are three years from retirement, thinking about bringing a son or daughter through, fielding an unexpected approach, or simply want to build something that does not fall over when you take a fortnight off — this session is for you. No prior planning required, and no obligation to be going anywhere soon. A business built to be handed on is a better business to own either way. Please note: this workshop is for alumni of Help to Grow Management, please only book the alumni tickets if you have taken part in the course (course alumni may bring a colleague- please do email s.white@kingston.ac.uk to let us know if you plan to).
