About the event

Rob Corcoran
Rob is a solid favourite on the London/UK folk and Americana scene. His well-crafted, heart-on-sleeve lyrics tip their hat to his North American influences (John Prine, Leonard Cohen, etc) but his turn of phrase and his voice leave us in no doubt about his Irish upbringing.
He has has sailed the high seas of love, heartbreak and excess, and (so far) lives to tell, through his gripping, visceral persona.
Rob's notoriety as a songwriter has spread beyond the UK in recent years with folk legend Christy Moore including his version of Corcoran’s brilliant ‘Ringing That Bell’ as a key song in his current touring set, and on his recently released live album.
This month/November sees the release of Rob's second studio album with his band "Rob Corcoran & the Necessary Evils, entitled "Grand Declarations".
The Necessary Evils, are a multinational gathering of some of the London scene's most respected and established players, some of whom have worked with names including Joe Strummer and Wilko Johnson. Rob's 2017 album Inverse Alchemy was met with critical acclaim and his live shows, solo or with band are quick to sell out in the UK and always leave audiences calling for more.
In 2019 Rob was booked to play in Uzbekistan but diplomatic channels between London and Taskent aren't so great and it was cancelled at the last minute. Rob was hoping to find out that he is the "Sugarman of Uzbekistan".
He once dreamt that Annie Lennox knicked one of his songs. He has an irrational distrust of her ever since
Goalkeeper for both Tate Modern FC and CNN International; former dock-worker, tree surgeon, librarian and news archivist Rob always has a few ludicrous stories to tell (most of them true).
"This Man Rob can surely sing. He says some things that need to be said" - CHRISTY MOORE - Irish folk icon
"Songs that weave their spell in intimate and intricate ways. I implore you to check him out because this guy is rather special". AMERICANA-UK
"Lyrically compelling, beautifully observed songs, drenched in Celtic soul and drawing from the same deep wells that serve Van Morrison and Mike Scott so well". NEW ROOTS
"From the moment he steps on stage Corcoran perspires authenticity in that fluid way that a thousand record execs have tried and failed to manufacture." - ANNE FRANKENSTEIN - BBC Radio 6
"Thanks Rob. Next time I'll try to hire a car with a CD player in it." JOHN PRINE
