About the event

The Role of the University in War
Join us for drama readings, presentations on photography and film, and an international roundtable on veterans in the present and future.

About this Event

How can universities become better vehicles to support creative expression, stimulate discussion, and support communities and other universities impacted by war? How can universities work in partnership to support veterans and their families in the present and future? What role can universities play in preseving and safeguarding the cultural heritage of war-torn countries? Join us for readings from plays by Ukrainian and British playwrights, presentations on photography and film, and papers exploring work with veterans in the US and UK. A roundtable discussion explores the university's present and its future responsibilities in conflict and post-conflict through the lens of the past and through considering current work. Taking place at the University of Hull, in a city which was one of the most bombed British cities in the Second World War, we reflect on the past and what we can learn from the past and how it may better inform our present and better shape our future.
