Hold your breath and take the plunge!
Sight Support has linked up with the Children’s University Hull & East Yorkshire and HOTA to offer this unique opportunity to fundraise to support local people with sight loss.
WHAT HAVE YOU LET YOURSELVES IN FOR?
The ‘Dunker’ is the nickname for the Helicopter Underwater Escape Training Simulator. It is used to train people working in
the offshore industry and is capable of a 180 degree revolution in a pool containing 250,000 litres of water.
As you can imagine trying to escape from a submerged helicopter shell is not usually part of most people’s daily routine,
but don’t despair we will take care of you.
Participants will take part in a safety briefing before they are lowered into the water inside the helicopter shell, they will then
have to escape through a window as it fills up.
The second part of the challenge will see those who take part have to free themselves from the shell as it submerges and
rotates, resembling a real life emergency. Participants will be strapped in during both parts of the challenge and the operation
mimics a helicopter making a controlled landing into the sea.
