Thanks to a great tip from one of you, we've found another wonderful house in SW London to visit! We have secured a two-hour privately guided tour for Art Historical London of the house and gallery and its collection plus a walk in the wonderful garden (weather permitting) on Wednesday 22 April 2020, starting at 11.00.
Only open to pre-arranged group visits, this house by American cosmetics manufacturer Stanley Picker (1913-1982) is a gem not to be missed!
Picker House is a remarkable late 1960s modernist home specifically designed to accommodate a significant international collection of modern and contemporary painting and sculpture. Situated on the outskirts of London, in Kingston upon Thames, it is a rare surviving example of a spacious and progressive late modern house and garden that remains unaltered. Designed by the British modernist architect Kenneth Wood in 1965, for the businessman Stanley H. Picker (1913-1982), it still retains its period interior decor, contemporary furnishings acquired through the then recently established Terence Conran Group, and the distinctive art collection of its owner - including works by Chagall, Frink, Hepworth, Lowry, Rodin and many more - which was an integral part of its conception.
Note: There are some steep stairs in the main parts of the house and also the garden is on a hill; therefore this visit is not recommended for those with a limited mobility.
Wednesday 22 April 2020, 11.00-13.00
