He specializes in high magnification electron microscopy, metallurgical characterization, component assessment, and failure analysis. Certified as an AWS CWI and AWS Level III Expert Welder—and with a background as a welding instructor and technical researcher—his expertise spans traditional welding techniques to advanced research initiatives.Currently, Dr. Burgess serves as the Senior Program Manager for Metallurgical & Welding at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), where he oversees welding operations, metallurgical assessments, and inspection programs across TVA’s Generation Services fleet.
