The Nova Quintet is a classical wind quintet composed of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. There aim is to play music together that we enjoy and we hope that you, our audience, will enjoy too.The concept of these 5 particular instruments playing together is rooted in the 18th century with Cambini (1746 - 1825) being credited with writing the first three works. However, the wind quintet became increasingly popular in the 19th century when the genre was significantly shaped by composers such as Anton Reicha (1779 – 1836) and Franz Danzi (1763 – 1826) some of whose music we will be playing today. These two composers are almost exact contempories of Beethoven.The ensemble has remained popular in to the modern era with Malcolm Arnold’s work being a continued favourite.
