In this two day workshop we will practice one of humanities most ancient crafts and create something that is as beautiful as it is functional.
Using some of the finest English grown willow from Somerset and Norfolk, you'll be guided through the processes involved in making your very own woven basket.
Day 1 will involve focusing on creating a round base, honing the skills necessary to build a strong foundation for your project. The day will end with us attaching and securing the uprights which will later become the sides and border of the basket.
Day two will be filled with weaving the sides using a number of techniques, before forming a follow-on border and finally attaching a handle.
Depending on the speed at which you work and the size of your initial project, there may also be an opportunity begin a second project.
This workshop is appropriate for beginners and improvers, there will be plenty of time for 1-1 tuition and some flexibility in styles and weaving patterns depending on what you'd like to learn.
10am-4pm both days.
All tools and materials will be provided.
You'll need to bring yourself a packed lunch and perhaps a few snacks.
This event will be held under the purpose-built workshop space, but consider it alfresco and wear appropriate clothing.
The cost of this event is set at £160.
There are 6 spaces available.
