About Arturo O’Farrill
Born in Mexico and raised in New York, Arturo O’Farrill has dedicated his career to advancing Afro-Latin jazz through performance, composition, and education. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, a nonprofit committed to preserving and evolving Latin jazz traditions. Over the years, he has worked with legendary artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, and Harry Belafonte and has composed for esteemed dance companies such as Alvin Ailey and Ballet Hispánico.
A multiple Grammy Award-winning artist, O’Farrill’s impact on jazz is profound. His "Afro-Latin Jazz Suite" won the Best Instrumental Composition Grammy in 2016, and in 2023, he earned his eighth Grammy for Fandango at the Wall in New York. His music serves as both a cultural bridge and a powerful commentary on social issues, embodying his belief that music can inspire change.
