Communion is one of the, if not the most important right (not ritual) that we are privileged to partake in. All Jews believed that the first thing the Messiah would do when he came was host a Messianic banquet. In fact, Christians understand, the last thing Jesus did was to host a banquet -- the Lord’s Supper. The Supper doesn’t seem like a banquet. There is only a crumb of bread. There is only a sip of the cup. They are in our bodies for only a short time. But the memory of what we have thought and felt at the Supper lasts far, far longer. It lasts until we come again to Communion. Which is why scripture declares, ‘as oft as you do this, remember!’ Yet in our current church liturgy, partaking in the Lords Supper has lost some of its importance, partially due the frequency it is taken, and partially because of the time it takes in ‘structured’ service schedules. Join us at Highland Park Assembly this Sunday morning, @ 11am, as we look at ‘The Lord’s Supper’ and see that it is more than just something the church does.
