- **Event Description**: Join us as Dr. Katharine Owens presents "Entangled and Ingested: Using Plastic Waste to Create Community Art and Awareness." About the presenter: Katharine Owens is a National Geographic Explorer, a Fulbright Nehru fellow, and professor and chair of the department of Politics, Economics, and International Studies at the University of Hartford. She has researched water policy for over twenty years. She is an interdisciplinary scholar who merges science, policy, and the arts on the topic of plastic pollution. Through Entangled and Ingested, begun in 2021, Dr. Owens has created over fifty life-sized animal portraits, and partnered with many groups including the Harvard Museum of Natural History, Wesleyan University, Middletown Commission on the Arts,
the Connecticut Office of the Arts, the Integrated Day Charter School, the Virgin corporation, Lindblad Expeditions, the Connecticut Science Center, the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, and Mystic Aquarium.

At this event, Katharine will present about her efforts through the Entangled and Ingested project. Join us the following evening for our Earth Day Community Art Workshop led by Katharine if you'd like to roll up your sleeves and help create her next piece!
