We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming seminar of the Graph Theory and Network Analysis Lab.
At this event, presentations will be delivered by the interdisciplinary laboratory working at the intersection of discrete mathematics and political science.
Talk 1: "Telegram Channel Networks: How Audiences from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus Are Connected"
Abstract: We analyzed 3,600 political and informational Telegram channels from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus, interconnected by more than 24,000 links based on shared subscribers. This analysis allowed us to identify how closely channels in different occupied regions are connected, how far they are from the “Kremlin,” who links the Ukrainian information space with the Russian one, and what positions Belarusian opposition and Russian liberal media occupy in the network. During the talk, we will present the main findings and discuss in more detail the specifics of analyzing and interpreting such a network.
Talk 2: "On a Generalization of Block-Cutpoint Trees"
Abstract: A block-cutpoint tree is one of the most well-known unary graph operators in graph theory. The image of this operator on the class of connected graphs consists of the so-called bc-trees. In this talk, we consider the following generalization of bc-trees: connected graphs in which the distance between any two non-cut vertices is even (NCE-graphs). We provide a neat criterion for recognizing NCE-graphs and study their structural properties. We also characterize connected graphs in which the distance between every pair of distinct non-cut vertices is odd. Finally, we discuss several related graph classes defined by parity conditions on the distances between cut and non-cut vertices.

By bringing together perspectives from both mathematics and political science, this seminar demonstrates how rigorous analysis of networks can shed light on pressing contemporary challenges, while also advancing fundamental research in graph theory.
