Zunächst begleiten wir Matty Hannon auf seiner unglaublichen Surfari per Motorrad entlang der Westküste der Amerikas, von der Spitze Alaskas bis zur Spitze Patagoniens. Doch tief in der Wildnis – allein mit Wölfen und Bären – scheitern die Pläne des Solo-Travellers unerwartet. Nachdem er alles verloren hat und kurz davor steht, aufzugeben, trifft er Heather, die eine kleine Öko-Farm in Nordkalifornien betreibt. Spontan wirft sie alles über Bord, um gemeinsam mit Matty weiter gen Süden zu reisen. 

Die 50.000 km lange Surf-Odyssee wird durch die Entscheidung der beiden, in Südamerika mitsamt ihren Surfboards vom Motorrad auf Pferde umzusteigen, auf wunderbare Weise verkompliziert. Auf ihrem Weg nach Patagonien entdeckt das Paar einsame, perfekte Wellen, erlebt die Höhen und Tiefen des „slow travelns“ und trifft unterwegs auf zapatistische Rebellen und amazonische Schamanen, deren markante Worte die Abenteurer mit existenziellen Fragen zurücklassen.
