Artefacts of an Unconscious Mind: Mark Niehus

Applying my experimental ethos across a variety of mediums including moving image painting & poetry this body of work is cultivated through the interplay between my conscious and unconscious mind. I liken these experiences of automatism to visiting a world in which my work inhabits with this in mind my exhibition is the presentation of a ‘creative expeditionaries’ bounty collected from their travels or ‘Artefacts of an Unconscious Mind’. The goal of this rationale is to create for the viewer contact with objects that have conceptually travelled great distances and as a result potentially hold transportive powers. In the making of this collection I continued to test my hypothesis that instinct is a path to purity in image making and in the process have produced work on the themes of individuality resilience marginal relationships and the friction between ideals and feelings of incompatibility with the status quo.

Animals in the Now: Komal Sharma

Welcome to “Animals in the Now” an exploration of present moment through the animals. You might find them in your own home in your neighbour’s yard or across the street quietly observing you in search of your attention. As we live in a whirlwind of thoughts and distractions our furry friends remain steadfast fully engaged with their surroundings. When they gaze at the world they invite us to pause breathe and truly connect.

These artworks depict them gazing at object such as an apple or orange they perceive it in its purest true form. In contrast we often perceive it through the lens of memory or with no attention at all.

Join us on this experience and let each piece inspire you to embrace mindfulness. Allow yourself to fully immerse in the process of being which can be as simple as gazing at an apple with undivided attention. Also next time you share a moment with your pet or encounter a dog or cat on the street remember to meet them in the “now.” They will always be there reminding us with their unwavering presence to cherish the simplicity and joy of simply being.

World Alzheimer’s Month is an international event held every September to raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The search for Alzheimer’s cause began with Dr. Alzheimer in the 1800s and continues today in full force. There is no cure for it yet!

13 years ago I cared for my husband who had Lewy Body Dementia which is a form of Alzheimer’s disease.

I have created works honouring his memory since then.

The seaweeds dipped in wax refer to the amyloid plaque that builds up in the human brain cells and stops them functioning.

I wish to display three of my art works in the in the Gallery Entrance Space. These works have been created by me to celebrate his life.

Time goes on but memories linger!
