SEPSIS TRAINING -Only for Kettering Hospital candidates

This training session is designed to improve candidates’ knowledge, recognition, and initial management of sepsis in line with current national guidance and local policy.

Sepsis is a time-critical medical emergency, and early identification and prompt treatment are essential to improving patient outcomes. The session will combine theory and simulation-based learning to support safe and effective clinical practice.

This training will count towards your ESR Sepsis module and will be updated by the Learning Team.

• To increase awareness of sepsis and septic shock
• To support early recognition of deteriorating patients
• To develop confidence in initiating the Sepsis Six pathway
• To improve communication, escalation, and teamworking in acute scenarios

By the end of the session, candidates will be able to:

• Recognise the signs and symptoms of sepsis and red-flag sepsis
• Use NEWS2 and clinical assessment to identify deterioration
• Initiate immediate management using the Sepsis Six
• Escalate concerns appropriately and communicate effectively with the MDT
• Reflect on clinical decision-making in a simulated environment

• Short teaching session on sepsis recognition and management
• High-fidelity simulation scenarios based on real clinical cases
• Structured debrief focusing on clinical skills, human factors, and communication
