From session work to touring, Tackett's journey took a compelling twist when he joined country superstar Vern Gosdin's ensemble, a recommendation made by none other than Merle Haggard.         This marked the beginning of Tackett's Nashville chapter, which would see him perform with renowned names like Eddy Raven and the remarkable Tammy Cochran.

However, it was Tackett's meeting with a promising singer named Billy Currington in a Gallatin TN pawn shop that would become a pivotal moment. Their instant connection led Tackett to become Currington's band leader, tour manager, and guitarist up until 2004.
