The Ketchikan National Ocean Bowl team and the US Forest Service is proud to bring back NOSB Day for 2026! This event will feature the work that 10 high school students in Ketchikan did for their research project that they submitted to the Alaska Tsunami Bowl.
This year’s theme was about conservation of overexploited marine resources in Alaska.
The Saber-Toothed Salmon talk is titled “Assessing Chum Salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) Declines in Western Alaska Linked to the Pollock Trawl Fishery.”
The Saber-Toothed Smolts talk is titled “Ooligan: A Little Fish with a Big Impact, A Comprehensive Look at Thaleichthys pacificus in Southeast Alaska”
This event is designed to share the incredible work that these students have been working on for the past couple of months, but also will help prepare them for when they present these talks at the state tournament the following week! So please ask these students challenging questions about these topics.
During NOSB DAY, you will see two 15-minute talks, senior recognition, and a round of quiz ocean science quiz bowl!
The event is free and open to anyone!
