- **Event Description**: Join us as we hike through the cosmos (on a scale model) and see the vast distance between our neighboring planets. The Sugarloaf Ridge Planet Walk is a unique opportunity to connect with the nature of planet earth as we discuss the incredible nature of the stars and beyond. Each step on the planet walk is scaled to represent 2.3 million miles. If you were to take a step every 5 seconds, you'd be traveling at the speed of light!

Starting at the White Barn and ending at the Robert Ferguson Observatory, we'll walk to Neptune and back! This will be a moderate hike with an estimated elevation change of around 900 ft and it will take approximately 2.5 hours to complete. The hike will end at the observatory where we'll have an opportunity to step inside for a fast tour. 

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students, youth (12-17 year olds; must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian), Sugarloaf members, Sugarloaf or RFO volunteers, and free for children under 12. Tickets day-of on site are $15 and might not be available. Wear layers, sturdy footwear, and sun protection. Bring at least one quart of water and if desired, a snack, as we will be taking a short break once we reach the picnic benches past Neptune. Parking fees apply.

Ease of access: The White Barn parking lot has one van-designated parking space, one accessible porta-potty, and a potable water spigot by the information kiosk. There is no cell service in this area. There is a flat, paved road from the White Barn lot to the Robert Ferguson Observatory and the Meadow trailhead, which starts on the eastern side of the Observatory. Meadow is a fairly flat dirt fire road of approximately 0.9 miles. It becomes Hillside Trail after the junction with Gray Pine Trail. Hillside continues for a few flat yards to the junction with Brushy Peaks Trail. Brushy Peaks begins as a wide dirt trail that narrows after 0.3 miles and steadily ascends for the following mile until reaching the Neptune trail marker.
