- **Event Description**: Bring a flashlight and your sense of wonder as you explore the park after dark. This hike heads up to the summit of Bald Mountain, where we will see the moon rise over the Mayacamas and the sun set over Sonoma Valley. This is a strenuous hike of approximately 6.5 miles with 1500+ of vertical and some steep sections (not recommended for children under 12).

Meet at the White Barn parking lot at least 10 minutes prior to the start time. Advance registration is $10 for general admission, or $5 for youth (12-17 year olds), students, Sugarloaf members, Sugarloaf or RFO volunteers. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. You must register on this page to attend; tickets on site are $15 (exact change only) and might not be available. Bring your flashlight, at least a quart of water, snacks, and extra layers for the evening. Parking fees apply. 

Ease of access: The White Barn parking lot has one van-designated parking spot, an accessible porta-potty, and a potable water spigot near the information kiosk. There is no cell service in this area. There is a ¼-mile paved road from the White Barn parking lot to the Lower Bald Mtn trailhead adjacent to the Robert Ferguson Observatory. Lower Bald Mtn Trail is a dirt and gravel foot path with multiple narrow switchbacks and inclines for an elevation gain of approximately 500ft. It merges with Bald Mtn Trail, a paved fire road approximately 1.8 miles long (from the Lower Bald Mt junction to the summit) with 1,500+ ft of elevation gain. The route backtracks on these same trails.
