Crystalline voice. Extraordinary musicianship. Live performance that reminds you why intimate rooms matter.About this EventWhite Lilac welcomes Spencer LaJoye, an acclaimed indie-folk singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and mesmerizing live performer whose work has been winning over audiences, critics, and fellow songwriters across the country.LaJoye is the winner of the prestigious 2021 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition and the 2024 Songwriter Serenade Competition, and has been selected as an official showcasing artist at Folk Alliance International. They’ve shared stages and tours with Dar Williams, Mary Gauthier, David Wilcox, The Crane Wives, and many more of the most respected names in contemporary folk and songwriting. At the center of it all are the songs.LaJoye is a remarkable wordsmith, pairing deeply human storytelling with gorgeous melodies, a crystalline voice, multi-instrumental musicianship, and virtuosic use of the loop pedal. Their performances can move effortlessly from tender and devastating to wonderfully funny, theatrical, playful, and unexpectedly huge — often creating more sound and energy alone onstage than you’d expect from an entire band.Their breakout song “Plowshare Prayer” became an anthem for listeners searching for compassion, belonging, and a little hope in a complicated world, helping introduce LaJoye to a rapidly growing national audience. Since then, listening rooms across the country have been selling out as word continues to spread.Glide Magazine praised LaJoye’s music as “reflective and evocative folk/pop,” noting their ability not only to tell a story, but to create drama within the melodies. The Midnight Special put it even more simply:“This is what folk music is supposed to do. Singing truth to power, piercing to the heart.”And Amplify Music Magazine called LaJoye’s songwriting full of “whip-smart poetic observations, heart, and honesty.”This is exactly the kind of artist White Lilac was created for — an exceptional songwriter in a room small enough that every lyric, every breath, every unexpected turn, and every moment between performer and audience matters. If you love artists like Dar Williams, Mary Gauthier, Ani DiFranco, Tracy Chapman, or simply believe that a beautifully written song can still knock the wind out of you, do not miss Spencer LaJoye at White Lilac.Come discover an artist people are driving hours to see — up close, in one of Kenosha’s most intimate listening rooms. All ages welcome.
