About the event

Alternative Spring Break Event: EERC Wildlife Walk
Join us for an interactive walk through Saint Edwards State Park to learn about current wildlife research in the park.

About this Event

CoSEE student researcher Ash Putzke will guide the group in a 30-minute interactive presentation about wildlife and current wildlife research in the park, including recent camera-trap findings that highlight the ecological importance of downed deadwood. Ash will also share insights on pileated woodpeckers as keystone species and lead a walk to active sites where participants can observe signs of their activity.

As we move through the park in a 2-hour guided walk to several sites, the conversation will explore themes of biodiversity, habitat connectivity, ecological isolation, and the broader importance of conducting research in places like the park to support resilient ecosystems.

What to Bring:

  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable hiking or walking shoes
  • Weather-appropriate outerwear
  • Ponchos are available for anyone who needs one during the walk

Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a different way to spend your spring break! ASB allows students to engage in community service and educational programming. These programs allow students and community members a chance to learn new skills, connect with others, volunteer, and support their local communities.

This happens every year in March, during the UW/Cascadia College spring break. Most events are open to all, but please check the specific event for full details on who can participate as some events are for students only.

The CoSEE, Outdoor Wellness, UW Bothell Sustainability, and Cascadia Sustainability partner to host Alternative Spring break for the Bothell campus and surrounding community.
