Feast and Fellowship: The Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Chris
Join us on Wednesday, August 6 at 6:30 pm when we celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ with Eucharist and fellowship. Because the Transfiguration Feast is connected with the grape harvest and the first fruits of the season, feel free to bring something with grapes or any other kind of fruit, particularly a fruit pie, along with your favorite beverage to enjoy time together afterwards!
The Transfiguration celebrates Jesus’ radical change of appearance while in the presence of Peter, James, and John, on a high mountain (Mt 17:1-8; Mk 9:2-8; Lk 9:28-36). The Gospel of Matthew records that “he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light.” (ESV) At this moment Moses and Elijah appeared, and they were talking with Jesus. A bright cloud overshadowed them and a voice from the cloud stated, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
During the month we celebrate major feast days with a short 30-40 minute said Holy Eucharist Mass (there is no music) that includes a brief homily about the day. These major feast days fall into two main categories: Principal Feasts, and Holy Days - which are also known as Red Letter Days. These services are a way to connect with the Lord in the midst of your week. The fellowship portion of the Feast and Fellowship events follow the service, and all are welcome to come and go, or come and enjoy the fellowship afterwards.
