The Speyside Way has been inspiring runners for over 30 years. The first race was held in 1994 and quickly became a magnet for some of the biggest names in Scottish and British endurance running.
50km
The 50k is the perfect bridge between road and trail. It’s fast, flowing and mostly net downhill, giving runners a real chance to chase a time while still getting that wild, off-road adventure.
You follow the Speyside Way through forests, open countryside and whisky country, with a coastal finish that always delivers. There is a short, punchy climb at Ben Aigen to keep things honest, but the rest of the route rewards rhythm and confidence. If you want your first ultra or you want to run quick, this is it.
100km
The 100km takes everything great about the 50k and adds a spectacular opening section from Aviemore through the Cairngorm foothills. It’s big, open, mountain scenery, then a long cruise down to Tamdhu Distillery where you join the classic 50k route.
It’s a journey: high trails, ancient woodland, riverside paths, distilleries, coast. A proper point-to-point epic that feels like you’re running across the best bits of Scotland in one day.
Why runners love it
• Historic event
• Beautiful variety: mountains, forest, moorland, the River Spey, and a coastal finish
• Runnability: great for PB hunters and first-timers alike
• Whisky country atmosphere (and the smells drifting out the distilleries don’t hurt…)
• Supportive, community & friendly vibe that brings people back year after year
Whether you want a fast, confidence boosting 50k or a classic 100km Scottish ultra that feels like a proper adventure, the Speyside Ultras deliver!
