This class is for anyone who wants to learn about how the abundant, bioregional resource of grain straw can be used to create beautiful and high-performing walls. Students will receive both hands-on and classroom instruction over two days. By building a light straw-clay insulated model wall, we’ll explore the effects of packing technique, framing details, and clay binder. Expect to walk away with a solid understanding of the principles that will let you successfully insulate with straw, and the confidence to start breaking into bales!

This class does not cover plastering – we recommend the 9/19-20 Plaster Fundamentals and 9/26-27 Natural Paints workshop for those who want hands-on time with sealing and finishes for straw wall systems.

The 2-day workshop runs from 10 am to 4 pm on both days.
